Vegetable Watch is both a inventory and sales management system for farmers who sell their produce at the farmers market and an marketplace for farmers to sell their produce direct to consumers online. Farmers markets rely on serendipity- the farmer happens to be selling certain produce this week and the passing shoppers just happen to need those exact items. The inherent unpredictability of the farmers market causes many potential customers to purchase their fruits and vegetables at the supermarket. I am therefore launching Vegetable Watch in order to 1. provide an inventory management and sales tool to help farmers boost their sales at the various farmers markets they attend 2. create an online market space for farmers to sell their current harvest directly to online shoppers and 3. inform consumers of the availability of fruits and vegetables in real time at their local farmers market.
